9—COURSE OUTLINE—Mademoiselle Stevens mstevens@sd91.bc.ca
Bonjour et
bienvenue! This
semester, students will review familiar language as well as learn new language
including verbs in present and past tenses and thematic vocabulary. We will
work from the textbooks C’est à toi
(It’s your turn) and Tout Ados (All
Teen), which we will use daily to support learning. Students will get used to speaking, listening
to, reading and writing in French at a beginner level while acquiring more
confidence in these skills—each of these
skill areas, in turn, will be assessed individually and equally according to
the upcoming and revised Elementary-Secondary Curriculum and the International
DELF (Diplôme d’étude de la langue Française) exam.
Students
will be presented with authentic works from Francophone areas in Canada and
around the world, participate in simulated activities, use French resources to
learn about these different places, cultures and histories and discover the
rich relationship between the English and French languages and cultures.
The
course structure will be interactive and participation-based, as oral
expression is an important component of second language acquisition. Regular,
consistent attendance is a must in order to be successful in this class.
Written work will be done mostly in class, but simple homework will also be
done on a regular basis and review at home is expected.
It is my hope that we will have a lot of fun
in this class, as learning a second language can be a very rewarding,
surprising and enjoyable experience. I look forward to getting to know you and
working with you!
Expectations:
Students will show up on time,
with necessary supplies/materials:
pencil, eraser, notebook, textbook if assigned. Students will keep the school’s
materials in good condition. Technological devices such as iPods, cell/smart
phones are not to be used in class, even as reference tools. School policy will
be enforced and if used, the item will be confiscated for the day. Important
messages are reliably relayed to students through the office in a timely
fashion.
Students will be accountable for their behaviour and will
contribute toward maintaining a respectful, inclusive class and school
environment.
Students
will make every effort to hand assignments in on time—Mlle. Stevens will be informed if there are extenuating
circumstances. Missed evaluations will
be made up on scheduled lunch hours. Please feel free to come work in our
classroom, ask questions or ask for help when and if you need it!
Plagiarism will not be tolerated; school
policy will be enforced and the student(s) will receive a zero.
